The Grand Ole Topp’ry 14/07/14

Well-loved New Zealand entertainers Lynda and Jools Topp are back on the road in October 2014 with a brand new show paying homage to country music greats, and celebrating original Kiwi country music. The Grand Ole Topp’ry will feature the Topp Twins with award-winning country artist Tami Neilson, alongside other special guests including the all-girl Johnny Cash band, The Johnnys, Cam Luxton (X Factor NZ contestant) and Kiwi legend guitarist Phil Doublet. Reminiscent of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, the Topps’ will host the show just as the Minnie Pearls did back in Nashville in the 1930s while brand new comedy characters will appear for the very first time. Waiting in the wings are previous Country Music Hall of Famers , who are standing by to be channeled by the Twins’ altar-egos. Be prepared to laugh, stomp and holler and enjoy a night of iconic Kiwi entertainment. From rockabilly to bluegrass, soul and gospel, this will be an event not to be missed.

The 13 centre tour begins in Invercargill on Wednesday 1st October before heading to Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Ashburton, Christchurch, Napier, Hamilton, Auckland, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Wellington and Palmerston North.

Lynda Topp says that just as Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry has changed over the years, like the Topp Twins, it has remained a cultural institution.

“We wish to pay respect to the legends of country music who have gone before us and also acknowledge the next generation of musicians who have, like us, been inspired, by past greats,” she says.

“Our take on the Grand Ole Opry (Topp’ry) will celebrate country music’s diversity and will be a night of rollicking good fun, foot-stomping music to live by, and connection to something larger than ourselves.”

Read the lovely review written by Alley Hector at qPDX.com.

“Somehow the Topp Twins truly encompass a universal message of love, peace, and environmental activism that is refreshing and energizing. I’d elect them president and put them in charge of the BP oil spill if I could. But I’m a little smitten…”

The Topp Twins and the APO 10/05/10

The Topps recent performance with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Auckland Town Hall, was filmed for television and screened on TV3 last week. For those of you who missed it you can watch it online on TV3’s TV on Demand.

Performing with a full orchestra was a challenge for a couple of gals who don’t read music or know what a bar is, but everyone had a lot of fun. The show could be called The 3 Kenors as the conductor was called Ken too!

The online video is only available to NZ viewers but the show will be available as an extended version DVD in the near future so keep an eye out.
